Stave thickness has an important enological impact

Oxygen has a determinate role in wine maturation. Cellar operations like racking, sample taking, and other occasions when the bung is removed accounts for much of the oxygen that enters the wine. However, a considerable portion is also introduced through the stave and therefore stave thickness has an impact on the evolution of wines due to thermal insulation and oxygen integration.

  • Standard 27 mm thickness is available for all types
  • 22 mm thin staves are available for Bordeaux 225 lt barrels for faster aging and integration
  • 500 ltr barrels with a stave thickness of 38 mm for slower and longer aging and achieving more intense freshness in the final wine.
