The oldest running cooperage in Hungary

Kádár Hungary, formerly Budapesti Kádár, is the oldest continuously operating cooperage in Hungary and one of the oldest in Central Europe. Budapesti Kádár was established in 1951 when seventeen coopers, many continuing generations of this craft, joined to create Budapesti Kádár.

Over the past six decades, the cooperage has focused on sourcing oak from the rocky and steep North Hungarian Mountains, specifically the Tokaj region. These decades of sourcing premium oak and gaining knowledge of the respected forest culminated in building the largest stave mill in the Tokaj region in Erdőbénye, literally translated as “Coopers’ Valley.”
