KÁDÁR HUNGARY , formerly Budapesti Kádár, is the oldest cooperage in Hungary and one of the oldest in Central Europe. Over the past six decades, the cooperage has focused on sourcing oak from the rocky and steep Northern Mountains of Hungary, specifically the Tokaj region. These decades sourcing premium oak and gaining knowledge of the forest culminated in building the only stave mill in the Tokaj region at the base of these ancient volcanic mountains.

Growing in poor soils and cold snowy winters, Quercus Petrea oak grows slowly and the resulting tight grain provides a smooth, creamy mouth feel with accents of the warm brown spiciness of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Since the end of the Cold War, Kádár Hungary has focused on providing the best expressions of these venerable forests and reintroducing these barrels to premium wineries around the world. Masterfully cultivated since 1769, the forests of Tokaj were highly prized in Bordeaux until war and strife constricted the trade. The world has opened again and the unique forest region of Tokaj is rediscovered - Kádár Hungary is the modern steward for the rich heritage of premium barrels from Northern Hungary.
